@Jordan
I know I've got no idea of all the stuff you guys do behind the scenes, but I have thought it would've made sense for SB to do a data integrity check of this before switching on controls that made it impossible for us to add or change thing the info. If that was to take some time to check the game preset data, could this control have waited to be switched on, rather than in the very first release. I can only think that an agreement was made with Content Creators to release it straight away, so why wouldn't the data integrity check be performed with them before agreeing to to release?
My reasoning behind why all game presets should have a short video of mainly game play is because that is what helps customers choose what to play. It's crucial to have this in the launcher, customers are substantially more likely to play something they know they might like. Descriptions, game image and tags can only do so much. I know our process of choosing which games to commercially licence is starts with looking up the title on Steam or Youtube and watching game play! I also dislike the inconsistency - now some games play videos in the launcher some don't, even more confusing for customers when they all did over a week ago when they were last in the arcade... Having these videos on the idle reel is an extra bonus. Our arcade is the only one for a 50 mile radius, we only opened in Feb this year so most of our customers are really new to VR and what you can do or the games you can play. A huge number of our customers come in for the first time and just watch the idle reel to see what they might want to play, nearly always asking "what game is that".
We are now working to have the Content Creators videos on our youtube channel (with disclaimer they are not our videos) and linked into a filterable page on our website so we can provide this information to customers through other channels.
When we were adding videos ourselves before, we were using the ones provided on Steam by the Content Creators themselves. I believe this is a huge opportunity missed by the Content Creators by not having a video on your games preset. I suspect that some of these are historic and maybe back then it wasn't part of the process to request a video from the Content Creators, that's why I believe a data integrity check should've been performed by Springboard before release.
There is one game image I think is all ages inappropriate: Arizona Sunshine Arcade. As the bloody zombie face can be scary for young ones.
