We had a father bring in his son this last weekend and share a booth. Everything was going well and the customers were having a blast. I go in to check on the two and ask how they are doing and the father proceeds to tell me how they were playing Operation Warcade and that a woman in the start of the game doesn't have any underwear on. I figured it was a joke but then he continues to tell me how he laid on the ground and looked up her dress. I had a member of our team "research" this and the guy wasn't lying. The guy was not mad of course, I mean he looked up the dress in front of his kid so what is he going to be mad about. We are probably going to remove the game though just in case someone gets curious in the future.

When I was working at an arcade I have three things I'll always remember.

Maybe 13-year-old kid walks in and asks me, "Do you all have a drowning simulator?"

Another kid, same age, comes in with his mom to play and is rather rambunctious. Plays for like 10 minutes being wild the whole time. After he's finished he vomits his Taco Bell all over the floor.

This one was more frustrating than anything. Family comes in to try our Richie's Plank Experience demo. They want the little girl to try (she's maybe 7 or 8) and we tell them it's not really for kids that young and she might get scared so probably not a good idea but they insist. Father then proceeds to, forcefully, push her into a wall when she gets halfway across the plank.

One of my favorites, Richies Plank Experience, had a young lady on the Plank trying to summon the courage to step off and decides that taking an assassins creed style leap off the end was the best way to do so! Face planted of course, thankfully went through a curtain into an empty station!

Very careful now to tell people they can STEP not JUMP off now and make sure they're always facing in a good direction 😂

lol...have had the same experience. had a girl that was on the plank and her family told her to jump off....so of course she literally jumped off. Straight into the wall face first. They laughed so hard for a good 10mins. Was great and no one got hurt, thank God. But yea...really careful to explain that you can walk or step off, but please dont jump off now.

We had a customer leave a skid mark on our wall this last weekend after a leap off the plank. She shattered an outlet on the way down!

We have ONE bad review for The Nexus. That bad review came from someone who came in and got pissy about the fact that our pricing was not "negotiable". To be fair, if I had been there I might have let the customer have the discount they were wanting to get, but I was not there. One of my employees was manning the shop and did not the the authority to change pricing that I and my partner had set. The customer wanted to take advantage of a local's discount even though his family was visiting the area. We are based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It's a MAJOR tourist area and we have to have pricing for visitors and take care of our locals a little differently to stay in business during the off season. This guy threw a fit in the shop and stormed out before my employee even had the chance to call me about whether or not he could offer this guy the discount he was looking to get. I guess this is not so much a "funny" story as a frustrating or sad one! Haha! But it is definitely a "crazy customer" story!

Haha we have a guy who always walks in and asks for the friends and family discount. He is a regular but doesn't quit and every. He actually works sales for marketing services so he is very pushy. He is constantly asking "could you do any better", "I just want my daughter to have enough time", and even asked me to feel sympathetic because he is going through divorce. Our latest encounter his daughter didn't share her session at all with a friend and he wanted us to comp the friend time to have equal turns. It is never ending!

@Spectrum_Waylon Yeah I have a local guy who comes in asking what the best I can do for him is. He is a little pushy, but always ends up just buying the same thing I have always offered him. Luckily most of our regulars are really invested in keeping local businesses successful in this area. They don't argue and are really understanding of our prices. Most of our pushback and arguments have come from tourists who are looking for the cheapest prices possible for their vacation.

`Best I have had was a mom can in with 3 high school aged kids. She told them she was going to demonstrate how one stays still in VR, she asked for Arizona Sunshine to be played and was doing quite well standing in place. She asked why her "hands" kept trembling to which i stated that there was likely a zombie behind her. She looked back, screamed and ran into an office divider wall and wasn't done. She careened off the portable wall and ran and fell on the PVC divider I had made. It broke her fall and broke as well. Even VR could not top that show, the kids were literally on the ground laughing. I got a good memory and thank goodness the only thing hurt was her pride.

I find that so odd that people try bartering with you for a better price! Are they trying to get you to lower the cost of sessions or trying to share it with more people than you allow? I think about VR locations as an entertainment space similar to going to a move or to play laser tag. You don't try to get a better deal when you purchase a movie ticket or play laser tag with a group of friends, so why on earth would I try to negotiate a price with a business for the service they provide? Some people perplex me.

They are generally trying to lower the cost of the session itself. I legit had a guy that came in, got an hour for him and his two friends (so 3 hours) and then came up to me later and said, "Hey, if I gave you $50 could I get another hour for each of us?" I told him that if he wanted an extra hour they would have to pay the standard price, but I would give him a 10% discount since they were buying so much at once. He get all offended and was like, "Hey if you don't want my money! Fine! What have you got to lose by taking the money and letting us play?" So I calmly had a brief conversation about the cost of games and licensing and overhead. He backed off a bit when I explained the licensing and he was like, "Oh! I didn't know you guys had to pay for these games!" :joy: That shouldn't be the point though! Haha! I shouldn't have to explain the concept of overhead to get a person to understand why I have to charge what I charge.

That's crazy! Seriously you should not have to justify why your prices are the way that they are. I guess VR is still a new enough industry that the populous doesn't understand what things cost.

last saturday I had a guy try Richie's Plank and his friend tells him to hit 666 in the elevator. I told him he shouldn't because it was his first vr experience... Well he tries it and as soon as he sees the spiders takes off the headset and runs out of the arcade yelling for his life. 1 minute later he comes back and thanks us for 'this amazing experience'

We had a couple in trying VR for the first time one evening. The bloke tells his missus to play Arizona Sunshine. She gets in there and then forgets how to reload, a couple of zombies slashing at her and one crawling along the floor towards her. She freaks out and instead of taking off the headset just runs! Thank goodness she chose the open wall to run at and the headset popped off her head - or it could've been an injury!

One of those "wish i was recording this" moments...

That is funny, we have had someone choose to run off the plank during Richie's Plank Experience because they were too scared to walk. She completely forgot she was in a room and didn't stop at the end of the plank. She kept going and put a huge hole in the wall. It came from nowhere, we even had an employee in the room with her talking to her when it happened. Got it all on camera. The customers were super cool about it and they patched the wall for us and requested the video!

I think my favorite, when Sphere was open, was watching a middle aged woman play The Last Sniper and literally "jump" off the edge of the airplane, straight into the wall and then sit on the ground laughing while her family filmed.
