Hi @hunter, with the new CDS, can I ask how does it handle updates? Does it update automatically? If so how do we know about the change log? Again, I would recommend to have the new system parallel with the existing as an opt in option.

Hey @vrcorner, thanks for the question! I can answer it for you. Updates for both games and SpringboardVR will upload automatically either when SteamVR is closed or when the headset is idle for 5+ minutes. The way you'll currently know when the download is complete is by either checking the system diagnostics tool or looking in "My Library," When the download is complete you'll see the "Uninstall" button appear.

We understand this is not an ideal solution and we're actively working on creating a simple way for you to see download progress and completion. Thank you for the comment and for helping us focus on what we can improve.

Hi Jason, How about game update log? How do we know what's the changes? This is important for us to know as we need to guide the customers through the experience. @HunterLaneSBVR

Hi,

As part of our opening check we make sure all games that have an update scheduled in Steam download fully before a customer might use a station. This is because a customer choosing a game with a scheduled update will force the update to download upon launching and experiences the game not loading. Given how you've described the updates occuring, will this be the same with CDS games or will the old version still work, even if the update is partially downloaded?

Hey Lecky and Kate,

Lecky, to answer your question. We can definitely see how important an update log is now. We currently have no update log to tell of new features but I've confirmation from the team that we are discussing a downloads page that would include such functionality. I've created a feature request for it. If you could navigate to the request page and share it/comment on what else you'd like improved it will help us with design.

Kate, for now, if the game is being updated it will not be able to be launched during the process. As soon as the update has finished then the game will be available for launch again. I understand this is not an ideal solution but I'd like to advocate on your behalf. Can you give an operator perspective on what an ideal solution would look like for updating content?

Regarding the update it would be same as steam that have the update schedule window. But this make me feel reinvents the wheel again as Steam already handles everything from there. I understand the CDS would help the developers to have higher margin, but using CDS is not reducing our licensing fees. In that case I would still vote for using Steam for more production reliable.

I agree with @vrcorner that an update window that we can choose would be the best solution. Provided that the games can work in the meantime. It's a downside with Steam that upon launch it would force the update if there is one.

We currently have awful download speed here - I've been in constant discussions with our IP for weeks about it. We've recently culled 20 games and put 20 new ones on. Unfortunately it has taken about 10 days to get all the data on 12 games are CDS from SB and 8 are steam keys. At the moment the Steam keys have actually been much easier to do. As there are so many stages there are points we can control along the way.

I still have one game on one station from SB CDS that can't go live as it's been saying Install pending for over a week... I had debated about copying the files from another station into the correct folder, but was concerned it might mess everything up.

I would really appreciate a downloads folder to see what is downloading and in what order, that can be changed if there are priorities. At the moment I have to click into each game to see.

I also find the label on the front of the game as to what is installed a bit confusing. It isn't actually what's installed but what is enabled on the launcher. It's like its set to click the switch and go live straight away with the game. This is not realistic or practical. It takes more than one day for games to currently download and install on all our stations, plus we need to test first.

SB CDS also doesn't appear to check for installed files on the PC to say whether it's installed or not. We had a serious PC problem on one station whilst going through the process of installing all the new games. The PC had to be wiped. From that process it became confusing as to what games were actually on there and which need to be switched off and on again to install. True this should've been done straight away, although there were so many other things to install and check it wasn't all done by one person and just got confusing.

Thank you for that. I feel like I've posted a fair few frustrations and negative posts recently. I wanted to balance that out a bit by thanking Springboard for their efforts to listen and act quickly to resolve many of the issues we have raised. I wasn't unable to log into the crowdcast live, but will be listening to it as soon as I get chance.
