Hello again 🙂
this is Sam from VR|Playspace in Germany. This thread might be a long ride but it might be worth your trouble so buckle up.
I recently moved the entire automated startup sequence of our stations from script base to windows schedule taskplaner thinking it would solve the issue with SteamVR having multiple weird crashes over the course of the day but nay it has been even worse with SteamVR working fine for a certain time but then disappearing entirely with Steam or SteamVR process still running even tho the green button on Steam top left isn’t let up or task manager not showing any instances of SteamVR so theres no UI to do anything despite it working and running games on the Index HMD and etc. and etc.
The setup was like this:
0 Minute - Start Steam at windows startup.
5 Minute - Start vrmonitor.exe (SteamVR)
7 Minute - Start BackgroundService.exe (Springboard)
I can’t get my head around why this wouldn’t work when its the same process name starting when manually clicking the applications.
Another thing could be that SpringboardVR starts SteamVR as well and we just would start the BackgroundService.exe solely but we had this constellation with our old script setup for a time and Steam would occasionally still popup errors like “SteamVR crashes last time” or “SteamVR is still running, would you like to restart”. Mostly the settings would suffer from that. Like changed audio output so we would have to reset them multiple times over the week.
At this point I can only believe that automation startup with these software don’t work really well so there is only a manual way. Or I’m just to stuck up so close to the issues that I can’t even see the obvious in here anymore.
Are you guys getting the same issues? Looking at the amount of threads online I can’t believe we are the only one. It would be nice to hear what other arcades setup are like. How you maybe solve same or different issues and maybe we can help each other with workarounds.
As always, thanks for reading and have a nice day!
