In November 2019, SpringboardVR announced the Advertising Beta for our partners in the USA & Canada. The objective was to test the theory that advertising revenues could offset operator subscription fees, effectively reducing - or eliminating altogether - the monthly service costs of SpringboardVR for Operators.
Initially scheduled for a trial run of 3 to 6 months, the impact of COVID-19 on our industry led us to extend the trial to one year, allowing advertisers more time to understand our end-users and build efficient ad pipelines. Unfortunately, the program was unable to generate revenues during this period of time that were significant enough to justify keeping the program active.
In addition, our advertising provider was unable to consistently filter ads according to the guidelines we set, as some of our customers reported incidents of inappropriate advertisements being served. While these incidents were few and far between, we apologize for any inconvenience these caused for you and your customers.
As a result, SpringboardVR has decided to discontinue the Advertising Beta. While we still believe there is a future for advertising in the LBVR space, we have ultimately made the decision that now is not the correct time.
How does this affect you?
Effective immediately, if you opted into the Beta, no 3rd party ads will be displayed in the launcher environment, even if you have “Display Advertising” enabled in the Operator Panel.
If you have added your own “Launcher Announcements“ to the launcher environment, those ads/announcements will still be displayed
Effective December 1st, the 10% Subscription discount for Beta participants will no longer be applied
If you DID NOT opt into the beta, there will be no changes to your service whatsoever
