Hi guys I’m back! My arcade hasn’t reopened yet as I closed it voluntarily and indefinitely, but there’s a chance I could use a shared premises. Here in NZ we are mostly corona free.
Anyway, I’ve been testing the Pico Neo 2 for a separate venture and while there is a huge lack of content available on their store, the SteamVR streaming actually works really well.
I used a standard USB C to A cable and got a decent picture quality. There are some options to adjust it as well to push the limits. I tested the Springboard launcher today and apart from the loading screens not appearing, which is not a big deal at all, everything else works as normal. The overlay menu can be accessed by clicking the home button on the left controller, and the streaming service can only be exited either on the PC itself or by pushing a button on the side of the headset.
I tried streaming over WiFi but my router and network card are both quite ancient and the router is in another room, so I only got a static image in the headset. I expect a good quality gaming router would work fine.
With an increasingly limited selection of headsets suitable for arcade use, I think Pico Neo 2 has potential to be a great option to consider. If you guys have some questions for me or want me to test something let me know!
